At the end of our transaction, in this case replacing my lost ATM card, she asked me: "Do you have any plans for the Summer?" I told her that I don't have any plans beyond tending to my farm.
I used to try go to bluegrass festivals, go on roadtrips, and go hiking in addition to tending the farm, but I gave up on that last Summer. I couldn't seem to enjoy myself when I was away from the farm anyway. This farm is my life!
I didn't even remember that it was a holiday weekend until I realized I had seen hundreds of RVs and campers whizzing by my farm on the Richardson Highway, and tried to go to a store in North Pole and wondered why I couldn't find a parking space at Safeway. (I really wanted some ice cream, it was really hot today).
So to all those who have lost their life in service to this country, and to all those that have to work through the holiday weekend-- I salute you! We will be planting squash.
